“Charles Harper painted homes designed by Rudy Hermes as photomontage backdrops to introduce the 1960 Fords in November 1959’s Ford Times magazine… ‘the ultimate in prefabrication since it has no footings or foundation.’”—Dwell (via Ford Times cover, Nov 1959)

Not for the faint of heart, this Grand Canyon house. The rigid hyperbolic paraboloid skin would achieve a long cantilever without massive anchorage, and frame unobstructedly the ultimate picture window. The 1960 model shown is the newest Ford Sunliner.

Suspended from the overhanging cliff, the prefab plastic units composing this apartment in Mesa Verde National Park would whimsically echo the spirit of the prototype. It’s cliff-dweller-modern. In the parking lot are a Galaxie Fordor Hardtop and a Country Squire.
